So, you've just started planning your wedding and between the hundreds of websites, relatives and friends offering advice, it can be a little overwhelming deciding what you want.
I've narrowed it down to just five nuggets of wisdom, so that beginning wedding planning will be infinitely less stressful for you. Read on to find my 5 top tips to planning your wedding...
Prioritise
Do you want to have an incredible party that reflects both of your personalities? Or maybe you want an intimate wedding with your closest family and friends? Perhaps you want to go all out on your outfit, shoes and accessories?
Whatever it is, the key to starting wedding planning is to consider the things that are the most important to you as a couple, and then match your budget to it. Sit down with your partner and think about how you want your day to feel. Try to visualise your perfect day and then identify the three or four things that makes it the perfect day.
Ignore the 'Rules'
There are so many things you are supposed to do when planning your wedding. Thankfully nowadays, you can break from tradition and plan a wedding that is completely unique to you. You can choose exactly what you'd like to make your day special. If you feel strongly about writing your own vows, ditching the bouquet toss or having your own best man then go for it! You will enjoy your day so much more if every detail resonates with you and is authentic to you both. There's so many ideas out there to help you. Take a look at my Pinterest boards for all of the wedding inspiration.
Hone Your Wedding Style
As you do your research into what you want for your wedding, you may find that your preferences change. The best advice I can give you is to not stray too far from the things you love. For example, if you are a lover of simple and stylish decor in your home, you could translate this into your tablescape designs. Love being outside in nature? Why not have a beautiful outdoor ceremony with some gorgeous florals and foliage. You will love and appreciate your wedding day so much more if it is intrinsically you.
Make It Personal - It's All in the Details
Once you have honed your style, you can take it even further and add some personal touches that stand out to you. I love the idea of sewing your favourite lyrics or your zodiac constellations into your veil (Rebecca Anne Designs is incredible at this!) and there are plenty more options available to you. Look at the things you love to share together - Travelling? Food? Books? What music do you listen to together? Perhaps you have a favourite part of the country you frequent together? Adding little nods towards the things you love will make your day even more memorable to you and your guests. The little details make everything much more special.
Book Your Favourite Wedding Suppliers ASAP
Incredible wedding suppliers will transform your ideas into reality. A good supplier will be able to improvise within your brief, suggest alternatives where needed and problem solve when issues arise. You should click with them and they should be on your wavelength. Make sure to check back on your list of priorities and really take the time to find the suppliers that are the most important to you both. If you find a wedding supplier that you absolutely love, make sure you book them as soon as possible. Many vendors get snapped up up to two years in advance! So if you've found the one for you, book them now!
